Emergency monthly housing assistance help available for Medina residents
This is the lean time of the year. And thankfully, as broke as we sometimes feel, it is not a lien time for us.
The new year always brings a fresh look at our finances as we prepare for tax season and, gulp, registration fee time for our children’s schools and sports teams for spring and summer.
I’m not sure how we do it, but each year God seems to provide enough for us to survive… although we do seem to slide slightly deeper into debt each year.
But we do have a roof over our heads and two running cars, albeit older ones, in the garage.
There are others in our community who really are in trouble as the financial plight continues to ravage families.
I saw this notice and thought it might offer some help if you struggle to make your house payments.
The city of Medina has started a new program to provide emergency monthly housing assistance. Sucessful applicants can receive at least $250 and a maximum of $5,000 to help pay their mortgage payments, utility bills or delinquent taxes. The assistance, which is made possible by a federal grant, is limited to just three months.
The restrictions are:
1. The property must be situated in the city of Medina;
2. The applicant must have a gross family income below 80 percent of the current median income for Medina County;
3. The applicant cannot own other residential property, including vacant lots;
4. The applicant must provide proof of ownership;
5. The applicant must be able to sustain their financial situation after assistance.
The payments are made directly to the creditor whether it be the bank that holds the loan, the utility or the the Medina County Treasurer.
The Medina Metropolitan Housing Authority will accept the applications. For more information or to receive an application or determine eligibility, contact the Medina Metropolitan Housing Authority, 850 Walter Road, Medina, 44256, or call (330) 725-7531.
